House in the Wild is a beautiful seven cottage boutique eco lodge on the banks of the River Mara. Located on Naretoi, a 1,000-acre private estate within the Enonkishu Conservancy. A 'rewilding' project has seen rangelands around the House in the Wild return to their natural state, with wildlife returning to the area after over a decade of intense farming - the wildlife viewing in the area is superb. Having set up the Enonkishu Conservancy, Tarquin and Lippa have worked with the community to ensure that its not only the wildlife see the benefits of the conservancy. They have implemented a grazing plan and engaged in social enterprises that will improve livelihoods, environment and revenues for all.
The House itself comprises seven cottages - four cottages are single bedroom en-suites, and there are three two bedroom ensuite cottages - perfect for families or friends. All over looking the Mara River, each has been decorated with hand crafted furniture throughout with plenty of communal space in the main areas for guests to socialize and relax. Running on 95% solar energy, House in the Wild uses recycled water through an eco wetlands, as well as sourcing firewood from a sustainable plantation. All the building material has been sourced from sustainable suppliers and much of the salad and vegetables served up in the lodge is grown in their organic garden.
Dining at House in the Wild is taken either under the stars by the campfire, or in the dining area by the fire, with healthy and delicious home cooked food taking center stage.
Activities have been designed to offer the whole family independence and some exciting experiences during a stay. From game drives (with every booking getting a private vehicle and guide) to guided walks and sundowners in the bush, to games in the garden such as croquet, garden boules, and badminton. Guests can also fish in the Mara River, visit the rhino sanctuary, or visit the Mara Training Center to better understand how the conservancy is helping restore wilderness, protect the wildlife and support the community.
