Buhoma Lodge is situated in Uganda in the idyllic Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, well known for being home to the rare and elusive mountain gorilla. From the private veranda of each cottage guests can enjoy views overlooking the forest while relaxing and taking in the stunning natural surrounds. Buhoma is an ideal accommodation for guests interested in gorilla trekking, being closely located to the meeting point for the treks.
Buhoma’s ten cottages all accentuate the natural beauty of the surrounds of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. With stunning views from each private veranda guests are sure to gain a new appreciation of Africa’s stunning natural beauty. Each cottage contains comfortable beds, an en suite bathroom, flushing toilet and hot shower with a few having the added luxury of a bathtub. All of the cottages have been built with eco-tourism in mind and are built with locally-sourced materials. Communal areas of the lodge include an elevated lounge area with bar and dining facilities. Encouraging guests to gather together and share stories of the day’s adventures is a cozy, communal lounge area, surrounding a warm fireplace.
The meals provided at the lodge consist of freshly prepared and local ingredients offering a variety of traditional and international dishes. Each meal is several courses paired with local and imported beverages. Hot beverages are available to guests throughout the day and a special added extra, greatly enjoyed by all, is one delivered to your door along with your daily wake up calls. All power and water supplied to guests is provided with responsible tourism in mind. The water supply is gravity fed and solar power is used for lighting and electricity with powerpoints is limited to the central area being mainly allocated to recharging cameras and phones.
There are a variety of activities on offer to guests staying at the lodge. Mountain gorilla tracking is the most popular, with Bwindi Impenetrable Forest being the main area for this. Pre-purchased permits must be obtained along with a number of other regulations, including eight visitors per gorilla family and a time limit of one hour. To appreciate the remaining local wildlife, forest walks and bird and butterfly watching are highly recommended. To experience and learn about the culture and customs of the local area, visits to meet members of the Batma Pygmy tribe and trips to the local orphanage and school can be arranged, giving guests a greater appreciation of the country.
