Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to gorillas, monkeys, chimpanzees and birds. Tracking gorillas in the so-called ‘impenetrable' forest is a magical experience.
The Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge is pleasant lodge and is located just outside the reserve, around 500m from the gorilla trailhead. The eight stone and thatch cottages are comfortable but basic, with en-suite bathrooms.
Guests can spend the day mesmerized by exotic sounds, or watching primates and birds in the canopy from the terrace of the cottage, which juts out into the forest. The main areas are similarly simple, but enjoy great views out over the dense forest and down the valley. As well as gorilla tracking itself, guests can go on guided forest and birding walks, as well as village and pygmy visits. There is also a nice river stroll on the property itself.
When to visit
Take a walk down by the river on the property - the birding is amazing!
